How to make your website AI-friendly

A checklist you can work through in an afternoon, or forward to whoever looks after your site.

The checklist

  • Text in the page itself. Your main content should be readable without running scripts.
  • A clear page title. Include what you do and where — "Dog grooming in Cork — Paws & Co", not "Home".
  • One short summary sentence. This is what assistants quote when someone asks about you.
  • One main heading per page that states the point of that page.
  • Section headings shaped like questions your customers actually ask.
  • Business information markup for name, address, phone, hours and services.
  • Prices and hours in writing, not only inside images or PDFs.
  • Consistent details across your site, maps listing and directories.
  • Crawlers allowed through your firewall and bot-protection settings.
  • Every important page linked from your menu or homepage, so it can be found at all.

What to do first if you only have an hour

Fix readability, then the title and summary sentence. Those three cover most of the gap for a typical small business site. Everything else is refinement.

How to know it worked

Re-run the free check after your changes go live, then watch whether assistant crawlers start visiting and which pages they read. Real visits are the proof — not a score.

Questions

Do I need a developer for this?+

Most items can be done inside a normal website builder. Only the JavaScript and business-information markup items usually need whoever built your site.

How often should I re-check?+

After any redesign or plugin change, and roughly once a quarter otherwise. Sites break quietly.

Will this slow my site down?+

No — most of these changes make pages simpler and faster, which helps both visitors and assistants.
